Opportunity Knocks is a 501c3 non profit organization dedicated to enriching life and community. We exist to support people with intellectual and developmental disabilities as they live, work, learn, grow and connect within their community. We believe in a dynamic, person-centered and community-based approach to programming that engages the voice of all Warriors, thrives on interdependent connections, encourages exploration, centers on holistic wellness and fostering healthy relationships.
Opportunity Knocks is looking for individuals to take on the role of Program Support. Program Support members help facilitate activities at the After Opps program, under the supervision of staff. They also work directly with participants to provide a safe, empowering, and positive environment. After Opps programs are held at the River Forest Community Center from 3:30 p.m.- 6:30 p.m. three days a week, while in session. Please view the calendar for program dates.
Requirements
Because this type of volunteer works so closely with participants and takes on important responsibilities, we require all applicants to go through a screening process (which includes a criminal background check) and be properly oriented. Applicants must be at least 14 years old and be able to commit to a schedule that is often the duration of a session.
Internships
We also accept applications for interns. Our interns not only work with us at programs, they may also take on special projects like program planning and research.
Apply Now
The first step to becoming a program volunteer is filling out an application or online form.
Special arrangements for internships or field experience may be made following the application process with approval from the supervising director. Indicate your interest in an internship or field experience in the ‘Service Hours’ section of the application.
Please submit applications and direct inquiries via email to OK’s Volunteer Coordinator Netta Williams at: netta@opportunityknocksnow.org
