Are you an outgoing, positive person with great customer service skills who enjoys working with youth and their caregivers in a busy and active library?
We are looking for the perfect match to join our friendly Youth Services Team and work up to 18 hours per week, which includes day, weekend hours, and evening hours. Flexibility a must.
Position Description: Contribute to a positive, friendly, inviting environment for library customers. Perform a variety of tasks at a busy Youth Department Desk, including greeting customers and assisting youth and caregivers to locate information. Acts both independently and as part of a team to plan, prep and conduct youth programs; create promotional materials; and provide reader’s advisory. Supports other tasks that anchor Youth Desk and general library operations.
Requirements: The ideal candidate exhibits library experience and has excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge of children’s literature, authors, and reader’s advisory is desired. Friendly, energetic, detail oriented person; ability to work productively with staff team; ability to work independently and interact well with children and adults. Must enjoy working at a busy public desk and maintain a positive customer service attitude. Basic computer/Internet knowledge is essential. College Degree or experience working with youth in a public library preferred.
