Current Internship

This past summer I interned at the Foundation for Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.

What was your favorite part about your internship?

I have several favorite parts of the internship. Firstly, the internship allowed me to experience new things. Prior to this internship, I had never visited a golf course. There is a first time for everything! My favorite golf outing was the ACE Hardware/Kerry Wood Celebrity Golf Outing. It was not only my favorite because local celebrities were in attendance but because I had the opportunity to meet some of the patients’ families.

Secondly, the internship allowed me to make a difference. I worked on several projects from different departments. For example, I worked on a named spaced audit. I would visit a floor of the hospital and record the naming opportunities present or absent. I would share my experience, and it was amazing to see that my experience impacted how the Foundation would approach naming opportunities on specific floors in the future.

What did you learn during your internship?

I learned so much from the internship, especially about the Foundation and its diverse “giving” vehicles as well as the impact of donations. But the biggest takeaway was that I never realized that working at a non-profit would be an interest of mine until the summer internship.
